Who Shear is for
Shear is a matching and chat app for people 18 and older. It is not for children. We do not target, design for, or market to anyone under 18.
When you sign up we ask for your date of birth. If we learn someone is under 18, we can delete that account.
Zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation
Shear does not allow child sexual abuse material (CSAM), child sexual exploitation, or any attempt to contact, groom, or sexualize a minor.
That includes:
- Any sexual content involving a minor, real or depicted
- Asking for, sharing, or offering such content
- Pretending to be under 18, or trying to contact someone you believe is under 18
We will remove that content, disable matching, and delete the account when we find it. We may keep records needed for safety or the law. We report confirmed CSAM and similar crimes to the appropriate authorities, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) where required.
How to report
If you see child sexual abuse or exploitation, or someone who may be under 18, report it right away.
- In a chat, tap the flag and send a report. Choose the closest reason and add details.
- Or email team.shear.app@gmail.com with the subject Child safety report. Include the nickname or user if you have it, what happened, and any screenshots you can share safely.
Do not resend illegal images. Describe what you saw.
What we do after a report
- We review reports sent in the app and to team.shear.app@gmail.com.
- Reporting someone also stops you from matching with them again.
- We can limit, suspend, or delete accounts that break these rules.
- We can turn off matching for an account while we review.
- If the law requires it, we notify the relevant authority.
